FIGHTING STUNTING AND MALNUTRITION BY STRENGTHENING FAMILIES AND EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT CENTERS IN NYARUGENGE DISTRICT

Over a 20-months period, Pan African Empowerment (PAE) Rwanda, with generous support from Pan African Collective (PAC) USA, successfully implemented a high-impact initiative to reduce Stunting and strengthen Early Childhood Development (ECD) in Nyarugenge  District, focusing on Kanyinya and Nyarugenge Sectors where many vulnerable families face challenges related to nutrition, income, and child growth. A total of 425 families received cows, goats, and hens, improving access to milk, eggs, and income-generating opportunities, while the sharing of livestock offspring created a sustainable community model that continues to expand support beyond the initial beneficiaries. ECD centers received nutritious food, milk, hygiene supplies, early-learning books, toys, and new furniture, resulting in healthier, safer, and more engaging environments for children. Parents and caregivers were empowered through training in balanced nutrition, hygiene, and animal husbandry-knowledge that strengthens household resilience and ensure lasting child well-being. The initiative has delivered measurable results, including improved food diversity, stronger ECD services, sustainable livelihoods, and the full recovery of 19 malnourished children, demonstrating clear life-changing impact. These achievements were proudly celebrated on October 16, 2025, during Nyarugenge ECD Day held at Kanyinya Sector, where PAE Rwanda was honored to be an official partner. The celebration was graced by key leaders and partners, including Rev. Dr. Jonathan L. Weaver, President of PAC USA, Bishop Vernon R. Byrd Jr. of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Clemence Mukanama, Executive Director of PAE Rwanda, Murebwayire Betty, Division Manager of Nyarugenge District, and an official representative of Kanyinya Sector, whose participation reflected strong collaboration and shared commitment to advancing child well-being. Building on this success, PAE Rwanda is preparing to scale program to more districts, remaining committed to creating healthier, more resilient communities and shaping a brighter future for Rwanda’s youngest citizens.
